Chinesepera-kun 0.2.2 Released
Posted on November 12, 2006 by la mogura
Here are the changes:
- More entries in the dictionary
- Faster Search (needed because of bigger dictionary)
- You can choose “Show More Results” in the options dialog to yield more results (often redundant, OFF by default).
- Press when over a character to display character information about it.(very much thanks to Imron Alston for compiling the info from the huge file)
- Now works with Simplified AND Traditional characters, and will detect automatically, so no longer need to choose anything in the options dialog.
- Fixed newline character not being outputted upon export
- Made the accidental exporting when trying to copy and hitting a little better, but still not perfect

AhhH! I’m so impressed! I posted a comment before, but i have to say this.
You so deserve an award. Like, you get a triple gold trophy for this extension. The only think that you could do to get a better trophy (diamond maybe?) is if you made it a pretty interface (which is not needed)
I absolutely LOVE how it also highlights two words if they are like one word. Like, I just rolled over “Classical Chinese” which was two words, and instead of telling me one word was classical and the other was chinese or something, it recognized what both words were.
I LOVE this plug-in to death. ♥.
I really appreciate your work and I love it!
BTW I found some bugs on your program.
First, you can see the description of Chinesepera-kun on Add-ons as “Popup Japanese dictionary”.
I think it is due to your other work named “Perapera-kun” the Japanese dictionary.
And second, in preferences, there’s no “Show in tools menu” but two “Show in context menu”.
I think the right side should be corrected.
Your work is perfect except for these two TINY bugs.
Thank you for your work and sorry for my poor English.
I forgot to say about my suggestion on your program.
I often cannot distinguish whether I toggled or not toggled perapera-kun and Chinesepera-kun to use its function.
So, I think it would be great attaching an indicator on the Status bar of Firefox when i toggle perapera-kun and Chinesepera-kun.
Thank you!
This is an awesome plugin! I find it to be better than anything else like it, including POPjisyo.
Just one issue though, and I think it’s the dictionary’s fault: Sometimes it gives unusual definitions and pronunciations for some characters. For example, hovering over 石 yields “dan4″ and “10 pecks” instead of something like “shi2″ and “stone” as one would expect.
It would also be nice to have an option to set whether one wants to see Mandarin or Cantonese (or both) in the popup windows. Now I can only see Cantonese if I press . It shouldn’t be too difficult to do, since you already have the Cantonese data.
Good work! Keep it up!
Sorry. “Now I can only see Cantonese if I press .” should say “Now I can only see Cantonese if I press shift.”
I have a very funny bug to report.
You seem to have forgotten totally about people who - due to lack of hardware, or sight impairment (need to have things BIG), have to use low screen resolutions.
PeraPera options screen is a long, thin strip which is efectively useless when your screen is, say, 1024×768 - because you can’t see all of it, e.g. can’t get to places used for edict setup.
I tried to use the keyboard to move it partially off screen, to no avail. The top edge will always get aligned to top of screen. PLEASE do something about it?
