Well it’s official now. Found sometime to take over my apartment lease, cancelled all my utilities, put a deposit down on a place in Tokyo, bought the ticket, and just put in my notice at work. I’m moving back to Japan.
Has been a really conflicted last 3 weeks with lots of mixed feelings and philosophical discussions in my head, along with reading ’The Alchemist’ to help psyche me into making the leap. But I made the decision and am giving up a well paid job in the midst of economic depression to roll the dice on starting my own little dev group.
So #1 on my todo list is the redesign of Perakun with all the features I have always thought it should have had. So that will be my job for the next few weeks. I appreciate everyones feedback and donations as always and look forward to making even more useful and powerful language learning tools.

Good to hear my favorite add-on is getting upgraded. !Any idea what specific changes are gonna make it through to Chinese pera-kun? There have been a lot under discussion!
加油,加油!
Hey la mogura,
I just wanted to compliment you on your rare courageous attitude in this situation. I see so many people throwing away some great chances to make something of themselves just for the sake of security, and I’m very happy when I see people like you who have the balls to go forward and take a risk that will most likely make such a better life for you.
Remember, even if this fails, your “obsessed with security” adverse personality will force you to succeed in the long run. Someone with that kind of attitude, as long as they remain persistent, can fail many times but will succeed eventually, and when you do, it will be great.
And since this product is so useful and well made, maybe your success is much closer than I am making it seem.
Just wanted to comment on this. Keep up the good work, and I wish more people would follow your philosophy,
–Tony
Just stopped by to see if there was an update for FireFox 3.5 when I saw this post and had to reply.
I’ve also given some thought to leaving my very safe and well-paying job to move to China for a few years, but haven’t quite worked up the courage to do so yet. So, I definitely admire your attitude and decision. As percipient said above, I’m sure it will be worth all the initial trouble in the end.
Best of luck in Tokyo!
