Free dictionaries for Korean that I’ve seen around the net over the last couple of years have never been anywhere near the quality of edict, and you need to have at least that level for it to be even remotely useful considering they lack the extra info such as definitions with example sentences found in commercial dictionaries like Kenkyusha for Japanese and YBM for Korean.

Before having the wiki open to public editing, you would have someone set strict rules as to the formatting of each entry, more or less the equivalent for korean of the part of speech tags and display of hanja for any given word as shown in the japanese edict. This strictness would obviously be necessary for them to work as a edict-like dictionary in perapera-kun.

This would be far better than just merely finding some other free dictionary online and formatting it to perapera. It would allow the grammatical detail, public contribution and entry currentness of edict yet in a even more efficient and public way. Even if other dictionaries are found, they could be then used as a way of bulk adding entries into the dictionary just as has been done to edict.

Moderators of the wiki with a decent knowledge of the language could be found and used to maintain the quality of the entries and mark entries for inclusion into the compiled dictionary ready for perapera. Which you could then have automatically processed on a regular basis through scripting/programming.

Personally, I could put time towards being the one setting the script-friendly formatting rules, as well as adding a few thousand words over a period of a couple of weeks with edict-like definitions, however.. as for the regular moderating of the entries… I’m unlikely to have the time. I don’t have programming skills either.

I’ve been using edict since 2005 or so and perapera for a few years as well, found out about it from some uni classmates, since I’m a student of Monash, the university behind creating and hosting the edict project. So I have the familiarity with the system to create a korean one. And while I can’t fluently read/speak korean… I’ve enough knowledge about the grammatical/linguistic/lexicon structures and what’s involved in making a dictionary, and have the linguisic ability through fluency in reading Japanese, French and German to contribute to a edict-like project.

I’ve had these kinda thoughts in mind for years but never acted or made any mention to them until seeing that perapera-kun is now ready for such.

I like the new little star box thing, but could you include the option to activate the program by right-clicking anywhere on a page again? I miss that.

peraperakun actually works currently for
both chinese and japanese

u have to have the dict installed
BTW the japanese part in peperakun uses the
same dict in rikaichan
so it’s like rikaichan is actually part of peperakun ver 2.0
