Here is a list of known issues with perapera-kun on FF3:
- When mousing over, it doesnt highlight the longest word found, only the first character.
- If you turn PPK on while in gMail, it removes the scroll bar from Firefox.
- Pressing shift does cycle to a display of the individual kanji/hanzi.
As I get more issues from email/comments I will add them to this list and will work on fixing them. Thank you.

This problem might be the same as the known issue: “Pressing shift does cycle to a display of the individual kanji/hanzi.” (should be “doesn’t”?)
The problem is that with the latest version, I can no longer press shift to see the cantonese pronounciation… I have tried it on 2 different computers and both have this problem.
Also, would you consider to make it an option to display cantonese instead of mandarin pinyin in the “primary” popup?
Thanks!
“Also, would you consider to make it an option to display cantonese instead of mandarin pinyin in the “primary” popup?”
Yep, I think it’s a good idea.

Actually the main reason why I downloaded the add-on was for the cantonese pronunciation so I would really appreciate it if there’s a way to view the cantonese pronunciation. [like eoolsson, I can't press shift to see the cantonese pronunciation now
Anyway, thanks!
I would also like to have this feature working on the new ChinesePera-kun. This tool has been the most helpfull in learning Cantonese. Hopefully, you will fix and release a new version soon.
Here is a comment I originally posted on the Mozilla add-ons page:
I am a big fan of Chinese Perapera-kun, but I’m having trouble with the latest version (on my Mac OSX). Now when I toggle on, the scrollbar “cuts off”–instead of seeing the up and down arrows at the bottom, the sliding bar seems to go on past the screen. I can’t scroll down all the way using the keypad, either. This makes the program useless for detailed websites or articles. Hope you can fix this soon.
I’ve noticed you have already caught this bug in gmail, which was indeed giving me problems. But normal webpages also had this problem.
Thanks for working so hard on CPK!
Okay, I’m not sure about this with everyone else, but when I start up Perapera-kun the first time, the blue caption box with the info appears with no problem. Unfortunately the caption box disappears with subsequent load ups and the information ended up appended to the far bottom of the same webpage, out of the screen. One has to scroll down to read it. Is there a way to solve this problem pls? Thanks!
Thanks for the awesome plugin! I’m wondering, do you accept patches? I spent a few hours and modded the jar of cpk to parse hanzi.dat, and from that produce cantonese jyutping pronunciations if selected in the config menu. I also fixed up some of the unicode handling so that characters outside the Basic Multi-lingual Plane (such as HKSCS extensions which are in range U+20000 or so) can be supported if they are actually included in a dictionary.
As such, there is some extended converage for strange Cantonese only words like 𪚩 (U+2A6A9) http://www.unicode.org/cgi-bin/GetUnihanData.pl?codepoint=2A6A9 .
Let me where to upload it to if you’re interested in the patch!
A problem I have noticed is that if there are characters above something that uses flash, like a video box or something the highlighted pop up gets buried behind the section that is running flash, the there a way to keep this on top of all things on the website.
Is there a way to always keep chinese pera kun on even if you change web pages instead of having to activate it everytime you hit a new site? This would be a good feature.
I have noticed that sometimes in firefox that if i open a webpage and activate the plugin but then back and forth open up other webpages and go back to my original the plugin does not work anymore, nothing will pop up. I usually have to close all firefox windows and open firefox again and then enable to plugin to get it working again.
Chinese Pera-kun is a fantastic tool, thanks for all your development efforts.
I now have a problem I think I did not have before (using v1.0.2 now). When I hover over a character, I get a unique pronunciation entry and often it is not the most relevant one. For example, when I hover over 石, I get “dàn / 10 pecks”, and that’s it. The value I set for the option “Maximum To Display” seems to have to effect.
I wonder if I’m the only one to experience this problem.

Do u agree? i’m hgb7
Thanks
Thanks for a great tool!
But I have noticed a bug, I don’t know whether you know about it: when one uses zoom feature in the firefox (it newly enlarges all the content on the webpage, not only the font sizes as in older versions), the popup window appears pretty far off the pointed text (and the bigger zoom in/out, the more off it gets).
Looking forward for soon fix

I’m really excited about the tool, but I’m having issues downloading either the Chinese or the Japanese perapera kun. Before I knew about the tool I updated Firefox to 3.5.? and when download the pera update from the box on the left side of this site it wouldn’t work. When I checked the Error log there were lots of errors and exceptions. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
